“When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.”
These are soberings words. The leaders actually thought they were doing God a favor. They believed they were doing the right thing in putting Jesus to death. What happened? They did not “rightly divide the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). They missed all of the signs of Messiah’s coming, and because of that they would die in their sins (John 8:24).
We must take caution to always “rightly divide” God’s word or we might miss the truth from God. When we fail to rightly divide, legalism creeps in and we begin making up our own rules based on our traditons and not the word of God.
