The legalist is self-centered. He doesn’t consider the well being of others.
Jesus encountered legalists, especially on the Sabbath. If one can help a lowly animal on the Sabbath, certainly it is imperitive to assist a fellow human being, made in the image of God!
As Jesus spoke parables, all the tax-collectors and sinners drew near to him to listen. The law-lovers didn’t like what they saw or heard.
No matter the size of the oppostion, there is always a remnant who will hear the truth.
This audience of sinners gave the law-lovers fuel for the fire. The tax collectors and sinners were beginning to realize they were lost, but the Pharisees’ eyes could not see it.
Legalism blinds us.
