Do not be afraid of the next eight chapters of Ezekiel, beginning with chapters 40 and 41 today.
The key to interpreting God’s Word properly is to understand it in a normal, literal way.
It is only when passages are spiritualized that confusion sets in. God did not give any portion of His Word to confuse us. Therefore, take joy in today’s passages and the chapters in Ezekiel that will follow.
Chapter forty begins with a literal statement,
“In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was captured, on the very same day the hand of the LORD was upon me; and He took me there.”
Where did the LORD take Ezekiel? To the literal land of Israel (yet future). And where did the LORD set Ezekiel? On a literal, high mountain. And what was on the literal mountain? A literal structure of a city. For a nice cross-reference take a look at Isaiah 2:2,3.
Ezekiel proceeds to describe an immense number of literal details concerning the future literal temple in Jerusalem. It will be as literal as the Tabernacle in the wilderness and the temple of Solomon.
Read today’s passage in its literal intended sense and it will be a joy to get a glimpse into the future!
