The prophecy of Edom (Mount Seir) in chapter 35 is likely the prototype of all Israel’s later foes. The destruction of Edom would signal the beginning of God’s judgment on the whole earth based on that nation’s treatment of Israel.1
I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:3 (NKJV)
Israel continues to be the center of attention for the world today. While the nation is now one, it is not gathered in belief. Israel does not recognize Jesus Christ as their Messiah, therefore their rejection of Him through their blindness continues. It will take the Seven Year Tribulation to break their will and cause them to call upon the name of the Lord and be fully restored.
Ezekiel prophesies about that restoration. The dry bones of Israel will come to life! They will be one kingdom with one King. The passage states this King will be David. Some look at this as an allusion to Christ, who descended from the line of David to be the King of Israel. However, nothing in the passage demands Ezekiel was not referring to the literal King David who will be resurrectd to serve as Israel’s righteous prince. Jesus Christ will also sit on the literal throne as King of the world, and as King of kings and Lord of lords.
This demands more study! But it is exciting to anticipate the Lord ruling and reigning.
